A guide to current travel rules

The rules and regulations concerning air travel, sometimes influenced by current events, seems to change almost daily. Before leaving for the airport, always check with your airline or the TSA regarding the most current restrictions and recent changes. One thing has not changed is the requirement to present a photo ID. If you fly within the U.S. and the age of 18, you must bring a photo ID, driver’s license, passport or other acceptable document. Photocopies are not acceptable, then the original document must be presented. Children under 18 years of age must bring a photo ID. If you travel outside the United States, check the requirements carefully. In general, you must have a passport or birth certificate with photo identification. Your passport must be valid at least for the duration of their stay. The transitional rule that allowed to bring a copy of the passport application is no longer applicable, you must have a valid passport. Several countries, particularly the Caribbean islands, will accept other documents such as birth certificates and driver’s license in lieu of a passport. If traveling in a country that accepts a birth certificate must be original or a certified copy. An Alien Registration Card United States, in some cases, it is considered an acceptable form of photo identification and a valid license. Other countries require travelers to obtain a visa in advance and some even require you to have sufficient resources for their journey and a return ticket in that country. Depending on the destination, it may be necessary to verify where you are. Also, if you are a child traveling with a parent, you may need a letter of consent from the other parent. Most airlines allow you to take hand luggage as a personal item – a laptop, purse or camera, for example. The exact size of hand luggage may vary by airline, but in general, should be able to fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment. The maximum weight limit on luggage is usually around 40 pounds, the maximum size of 45 linear inches. Perhaps nothing is as confusing as the rules on carrying liquids on the plane. Liquids, lotions, creams or gels that you have in your hand luggage must be on all containers 3 ounces or less, and containers must be able to fit in a Ziploc bag of fourth standard format. The plastic bag must be passed through X-ray separately. If you have liquids in containers larger or too numerous to go into the bag, you must go in checked baggage. Medicines and infant formula is generally exempt from the rule of three ounces, and fluids necessary to sustain life, as the liquid used to transport organs for transplant bone marrow. Obviously, this does not apply to travelers every day. If baggage medication, must be in original packaging and labeling is also a good idea to carry a prescription or a doctor’s note. You can not bring a drink at the piano with you unless you bought it after going through the security checkpoint. Almost as confusing is the list of things you can and can not take on board the aircraft in hand luggage. The elements that are obviously dangerous or could be used as a weapon, like long knives, explosives, weapons or large instruments, obviously you can not take on an airplane. You are authorized to carry out the plan of security features such as razors, scissors with blades less than 4 inches and lighters. The rules for checked baggage vary depending on the specific airline. Also, if you travel by coach or first class when traveling abroad can have an impact standards. It is generally allowed two pieces of checked baggage, each weighing not more than 50 pounds and measure each less than 62 linear inches. Each piece of checked baggage must be clearly labeled. In general, the airlines recommend that you check in at least 90 minutes for domestic flights and at least two hours in advance if you travel abroad. Airlines reserve the right to give your seat away if you have not checked in a given period of time – usually around 30 or 40 minutes before the flight. U.S. airlines is not necessary to reconfirm the flight in advance, but it’s a good thing to do. So if you are flying, especially if they have not recently been on a plane, check the current rules with the airline or travel agency. I do not want to be one of the many people who are denied boarding the flight.
